New Apple event announced for March 8, 2022: “Peek Performance”

In short

Let's go deeper

Apple surprisingly announced the first event of 2022 for Tuesday March 8 at 19.00 at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California, and in live streaming on YouTube, on the website and in the Apple TV app.

As with the 2021 events, Apple's March 8 event will continue to be a digital-only gathering, due to the ongoing health crisis 😪.

Rumors about the new Apple event

Secondo Rumors and Leak collected in recent days, at the March 8 event Apple should announce:

  • The third generation of iPhone SE
  • a new iPad Air
  • at least one Mac with an Apple Silicon chip, most likely a new Mac mini or the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

iPhone SE 3

The third-generation iPhone SE seems to be similar to the current second-generation model and no design changes are expected, a real shame.

It will therefore continue to feature thick bezels and a Touch ID Home button, but it will include an updated A-series chip, certainly the A15, and 5G connectivity.

iPad Air 6

'Bad news' also for the iPad Air to which Apple will not make any design changes but, as with the iPhone SE, it will mount faster chips and 5G connectivity.

It could also be updated with a new FaceTime camera with Center Stage, the function that automatically moves the frame to always keep your face in the center of the screen.

Mac Mini Pro

As for Macs, it seems that Apple is planning to release a high-end version of the Mac mini with, finally, a renewed design and M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

MacBook Pro 13 or Air M2

The latest device rumored to be unveiled at the March 8 event is an updated version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, powered by an M2 chip, the successor to the M1 chip.

Surely this MacBook Pro will be identical to the current 13-inch model and will be a low-end version of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M1 Pro and the M1 Max chips.

In my opinion, however, analyzing the cover and the colors, Apple is much more likely to present a new Macbook Air model, totally redesigned and along the lines of the 24-inch iMacs.

The M2 chip will feature the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but speed and efficiency improvements are expected, as are GPU improvements.

I Rumors suggest that the M2chip will be available in 9- and 10-core GPU options, compared to the 7- and 8-core GPU options available with the original M1chip.
